Ha Long Bay in Northern Vietnam. Ha Long Bay is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Vietnam. Located near the capitol of Hanoi, Ha Long Bay is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site due to it’s thousands of centuries-old limestone karsts and isles which drive tourists over. The name Ha Long means “descending dragon” which is one way to describe the beautiful geographic features. As many as six million tourists flock to the bay every year where they can go caving, boat cruise, swim, canoe and more.

Resort located in Nha Trang Beach. Nha Trang is famous for its picturesque beaches located in south central Vietnam. The coastal cities boast plenty of hotels and resorts making it the ultimate relaxing, tropical getaway for locals and international tourists alike. Due to it’s proximity to the sea, Nha Trang is also known as the seafood capital of Vietnam because of it’s foodie seafood scene thanks to the abundance of fresh fish nearby.  On top of the beautiful landscapes, Nha Trang boasts several cultural sites which date back to the Cham and French roots.

Formerly known as Tien binh and renamed to Quang Binh in 1604, this province is located in the North Central area of Vietnam. The Ngang Mountain Pass borders the province as the natural frontier to the north. The Hoanh Son Mountains also run through this province so the area receives tourists who would like to travel Vietnam off the beaten path. The mountains make way for natural cave and grotto settings prompting outdoor adventures to explore everything this province has to offer.

Farming dominates the small mountain town of Sapa, Vietnam in the province of Lao Cai. Tourists from Hanoi can travel 360km northwest towards the Chinese border to find these scenic farming ranges. The Hoang Lien Song mountain range cuts through the terrain which creates the optimal agricultural environment for the rice crop. Mount Fan Si Pan is the country’s highest peak and a popular hiking range among tourists and thrill-seekers. Locals recommend renting a scooter and enjoying the beautiful views this quiet farming town has to offer.

Vietnam’s dynastic beauty. Hue, Vietnam is known as the imperial city of Vietnam. Located in central Vietnam, Hue features breath-taking architecture which was fit for the ruling family of the Nguyen Dynasty. The Nguyen Dynasty ruled over Vietnam from 1802 to 1945 until the current emperor abdicated, becoming the last imperial family to rule the country. While a large portion of the city was destroyed during the Tet Offence during the Vietnam War, what remains today is even more beautiful as it represents the dynamic and noble emblems of what Vietnam once was before.

The port of Hai Phong. Located two and a half hours southeast of Hanoi in the north central area of Vietnam, Hai Phong is considered a hidden gem in the eyes of locals. The city is quickly becoming an important industrial powerhouse of the country. While international tourists enjoy Hai Phong for it’s proximity and ferry access to attractions like Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island, locals also enjoy the city for the Do Son Beach Casino as well as the annual Choi Trau (Do Son Buffalo-Fighting Festival).

This breath-taking landmark is located in the Cao Bang province bordering China. The depth and beauty of the area comes from its varying levels of waterfalls. The several waterfalls are 30m high and 300m across, with part of the falls flowing from and through China. To reach the Ban Gioc Waterfall, travelers past the Nguom Ngao caves which are connected to the falls. Nature enthusiast can hike through the area, traverse the caves, take a bamboo raft or take a swim if they dare.

Cau Vang footbridge, Cau Vang translates to “Golden Bridge” which fits perfectly for this name attraction. Opened in June of 2018, the Golden Bridge is located in Ba Ha Hills in Central Vietnam near the popular city of Da Nang. The footbridge is 500ft long and is stationed 3,200ft above sea level. The bridge’s “giant hands” are reaching toward the sky to support the walkway. The bridge has quickly become a popular attraction for tourists and weddings hoping to get the best location for photos.

My Son Temple Sanctuary. The My Son Temple Sanctuary dates back as early as the 4th Century CE. It’s located in the Duy Xuyen District of the Quang Nam Province. This landmark pulls in Hindu roots and is said to be inspired by Mount Meru, the mythical sacred mountain home of Hindu gods. The My Son Sanctuary is designated UNESCO World Heritage Site honoring the historic architectural contributions of the My Son Civilization and Cham people. Large portions of the landmark were destroyed during the Vietnam War.

Considered the world’s largest natural cave, Hang Son Doong Cave is located in the Quang Binh Province of Vietnam. The name “Son Doong” derives from the translation “mountain river cave.” The natural landmark was created 2-5 million years ago by river water eroding away the limestone underneath the neighboring mountains. While the cave was first found in 1991 by a local Vietnamese man, it didn’t receive its international prominence and notoriety until the British Cave Research Association surveyed and brought global recognition.

Vietnam’s older generation has seen their fair share of war, poverty, sadness, corruption and instability. None of this likely phasing them growing up. When asked about their experiences, most Vietnamese people focus on the fact that they had to work to make money for food and the family. As the times have changed to peace, Vietnam’s elderly have seen the best and worst of the country. Regardless of the past, the woman still boast a welcoming smile to friendly tourists.

The traditional Vietnamese garment, Ao Dai, is a treasured symbol of the Vietnamese culture. The Vietnamese wear their Ao Dai for special occasions such as weddings, celebrations and Vietnamese New Year Tet. The garment is a long, split tunic dress worn over silky wide trouser pants in bright, beautiful colors. The quality of the Ao Dai used to represent the class of privilege of those wearing them. Tourists enjoy renting the outfits for photos and going to cultural sights to get a more authentic experience in Vietnam.

Weddings are a sacred and cherished family celebration within the Vietnamese culture. A wedding is seen as two families marrying into one. Guests may wear their best Ao Dai or formal dress to the occasion, usually attended by only immediate family and a few close friends. Traditionally, the groom’s parents will lead him and the family into the bridge’s home where her family is also waiting. Gifts are exchanged by family members and to the bride’s parents from the groom to officially mesh the two families into one union.

Nha Trang

 

Nha Trang is a popular tourist destination, attracting backpackers, Southeast Asia veteran travelers, scuba divers, and beach goers. The city is the capital of Khanh Hoa Province and sits on the southeast coast of Vietnam. The street pictured is Tran Phu Street, which runs alongside the main beach of the city and houses hotels and seafood restaurants. Cable cars can be taken to a nearby island, Hon Tre. Other nearby islands, Hon Tam and Hon Mun have coral reefs and can be reached by boat. Nha Trang Bay is considered by some to be one of the most beautiful bays in the world.

 

Vietnamese Street Food Vendor

A common sight in Vietnam, street food vendors are plentiful and provide delicious traditional dishes. One of the things that Vietnam visitors most highly recommend is the food. Flavourful, great prices, and large servings keep hungry tourists coming and begging for more. The most famous Vietnamese dish is Pho, an amazing rice noodle soup, but there is plenty more to choose from. Dishes include Banh mi (vietnamese sandwich), banh trang tron (rice paper salad), oc (sea snails), che (vietnamese sweet desert), and cha gio (spring rolls).
